Leonard Tsuguharu Foujita (Japanese 1886-1968) has had a number of works sold at Christies, ranging from a lithograph for $4600, to a cat lithograph for $6000.00, to a portrait that originally sold in Paris for 8000 francs and later was sold in 2013 at Christies for $1,205,000. This is a wonderful portrait that has vivid colors. The woman's eyes are stunning, so much like his cats and women. The eyes have become the thing that attracts me the most. Foujita is a very significant artist of the 20th Century.
Size: 19 3/4" by 15 1/2" (Framed)
Signed: Bottom right corner.
Condition: Fair, with some creasing and a 1-inch tear in the bottom center.
This painting is, in my mind, well worth some professional restoration to preserve this wonderful artwork. Because of the condition issues, we were able to buy this for far less than we paid for the other two Foujita artwork, and we are passing on the savings with an extremely low price as well.
A Foujita "Girl with Cat" just sold at Doyle Auction (New York) for $ 47,500.00 before Buyer's Premium! It is very similar to our Foujita "Fille Avec Chat"
