Joseph Tomanek (Czechoslovakian/American 1889-1974) is becoming more and more popular. Numerous works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Spring Around The Corner' sold at John Moran Auctioneers, Inc. 'California & American Fine Art Auction' in 2015 for $10,200.00. He was born on a farm in Straznice, Czechoslovakia (in Southeastern Moravia) He studied art at the School of Design in Prague. He emigrated to America, partly to escape three years of military service, and arrived in Chicago in 1910. He was active mainly in Indiana and Illinois. I think this is an excellent example of Tomanek's best work. It is sensuous and impressionistic.
