I love Art Nouveau artwork. It was an age of emerging fanciful and bold changes. A free and lighthearted age was coming. This is an exquisite example. The beautiful nudes are called Nixes or Nymphs, or the Daughters of the Rhine in Wagner's Operas. They are creatures of the waters, spoken of in adoring terms in the mythology of Northern Europe, beautiful and ethereal.
For this 1898 "Jugend" issue, the artist "E. Loeber" has pictured three Nixes talking together as if they are friends perhaps talking in a cafe or in a park, except they are three nudes in a lake. The composition of the three nudes together is totally original, and the colors are charming pastels.
The piece is signed visibly on the lower right side, dated on top, and is printed on a fairly thick paper, as thick as a "Jugend" cover as a matter of fact. Back of the sheet has text.
This wonderful print is a very special find on all levels; with great appeal and artistic quality, and a favorite with all lighthearted lovers of Art Nouveau.
