I saw this among several paintings from his estate and felt it was the finest of the lot. I paid more for it than any of the others, and have not regretted that decision. It is not only important to buy the "right" artist, but to buy the finest of what he has produced. I feel we did with this wonderful painting. In 1998, Kit White wrote of Bernard Chaet's works: "All of the qualities that burst forth from the surfaces of Bernard Chaet's paintings are of the fabric of what is a continuing and powerful legacy of American painting: a strong connection to and, dare I say, romance with the physical world and our response, often our subordination to it. It is a powerful tradition even when, at times it flows only subliminally through our consciousness." I believe this is an accurate description. This has been exhibited in 2012 in a two man show (see note on back of painting). His work has been gaining interest, and is now in many significant collections.
