This is a very interesting Sterling Silver Match Safe with applied copper decoration, a heraldic shield with an open hand, palm facing forward and three cockerels above; underneath is a ribbon banner with the dates 1862 – 1902. This must be a fraternal order but I do not know which one. A most unusual match safe.
Country of Origin: United States.
Size: 2 1/2"by 1 7/8".
Marks: On the rim "STERLING" Copper Ribbon: "1862 – 1902"
Condition: Nice heavy silver, integral hinge, ridged striker on the base. There are a few dings and a dent on the side, and a very small split on the lid. Good Antique Condition.
