On our first trip to Africa, my late husband gave some talks and reviewed some of the obstetrical facilities in Nairobi, and one in Tanzania. (He was Professor and Chair of OB/GYN at Nova University here in Davie, Florida). He was presented with this very impressive witch doctor as a gift. He is quite the conversation piece; very "well-dressed" in his white woolly cap, large coil earrings, a leather (probably calfskin cape, and wire wrist and ankle bracelets. He holds a whole realistic-looking (wood) gourd and a half gourd. This was how it was presented. It looks like he could hold a staff in his left hand, but this is how he was given. He holds a forked staff in his right hand. He has a cute beard, and he is barefoot. He is dressed in red cloth, and is seated on a stool. He is dusty, since he has been sitting on one of our shelves for forty-plus years.
