This is such an exquisite piece. It is a hinged and lidded sterling perfume bottle holder with a lovely scrolling pattern in high relief on both halves. It has a gold wash interior and comes with the green-colored perfume bottle and stopper. There is a blank cartouche on both sides. Perhaps you might want to engrave it with initials or a very short message. It is a wonderful find, well-hallmarked.
Country of Origin: Great Britain.
Size: 2 3/4" tall.
Marks: Hallmarked for sterling in the lid, as well as a hallmark that dates it to the late 1800s. It is also hallmarked on the back half of the holder, with an anchor identifying it as made in Birmingham, England. The hallmark for sterling (lion) is there, as is the "Z" identifying it as late 1800s. I can not find the maker, but the maker's mark is "A" and "M C" below it.
Condition: Both hinges close well and are firm. There is less than expected use and age wear, perhaps some very tiny dings. The glass perfume bottle has some slight roughness around the lip of the bottle. The interior shows a fair amount of wear. I was not able to remove the stopper.
