Jovan Obican, French/Yugoslavian (1918 - 1986) Well-listed internationally known and appreciated artist. My photography of this original artwork does not really show the beautiful brushstrokes and shading in the painting. As most of you have realized, I always prefer original artwork to lithographs and other multiple prints. I like to have the "one and only." Yes, that does present higher prices, especially for the better artwork, but certainly in the total scheme of things, including appreciation, I feel it is worth it. This is a very special example of the best of his work. It has a prominent bird. A bird is practically in every work of his art. The bird is like a trademark, it depicts love, peace, liberty, beauty, and happiness. There are multiple people, all children except for one elder, and objects. It has the naivete and child-like happiness that has enthralled many prominent people in the world, including American presidents, senators, ambassadors, film stars and European royalty. While at first glance one sees the child-like qualities, with a bit more notice one is aware of the masterful sophistication, and the happiness that actually has overtones of subtle messages. Jovan Obican has that background of travel and living in different countries that seems to foster the kind of artists I so love, such as Efimov or LePho.
