This very beautiful Chinese snuff bottle is enameled with a beautiful butterfly in a cartouche on one side, and a beetle on the other. Both scenes are in medium relief, and have leaves in the background. The colors are gorgeous. There is a flower on each narrow side, and a lovely understated design all around the cartouches. The jade top is a lovely color matching the design, but the top has separated from the cork, so I don't know if there is a spoon or not. A wonderful piece to enhance any collection of Asian articles.
Country of Origin: China.
Size: 2 1/2" tall.
Circa: Republic Period, probably about 1920.
Condition: No losses except for the top separated from the cork. No Spoon. Very Good Condition.
Provenance: From an astute Massachusetts collector who wished to remain anonymous.
