A mandorla is an ancient symbol of two circles coming together and overlapping one another to form an almond shape in the middle. There are a great deal of religious and spiritual beliefs surrounding the mandorla. Interestingly, the word "Mandorla" means "almond" in Italian.
Size: 8 3/8" by 6 1/2". Framed 11 5/8" by 10".
Circa: late 19th Century or earlier.
Condition: Creases. Some loss around the edges. The overall condition is as you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners. (There is a remnant from a tag on the bottom right. Will be cleaned before shipping.)
