The pipe was and is sometimes used as a symbol of masculinity. Today it is sometimes pictured to show the Men's Room in restaurants and other public places in China.
This standing sage is a well-detailed figure holding a pipe. The figure is glazed in the Sancai tradition in cerulean blue, mustard yellow and jade green. His facial features are excellent.
Size: 8 and 1/8 inches tall.
It is in Very Good Condition. The overall condition is better than what you would expect from an object of substantial age that has been displayed/handled/used, usually over the lifetimes of several owners. While it does have some of the usual base wear seen on these, and a rough spot "flea-bite" on the outer fold of his robe's yellow border across his chest, and even tinier flea-bite on the side of his hat, the colors have kept very well, and these few noted conditions are minor.
