Anatole Aleksandrovich Efimov (Russian 1897 - 1981), known as Anatole Efimoff after leaving Russia. This depicts a neighborhood street, with a house partially obscured by trees and brush, with stairs on a ramp leading up. I find this artist not only extremely gifted, but fascinating, and believe his work to be investment quality. (Some information is at the bottom of the listing.)

Born in Russia, he entered the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1906. His first two years of study focused solely on drawing, forming a solid basis for the paintings of historical buildings he completed later in life. His study was in the style of traditional, realistic art. Upon his graduation in 1914, Anatole was deemed to have mastered all media and was awarded the title “master artist.” He was also an accomplished musician, an absolutely fascinating individual.Immediately after graduation, Anatole joined his father and older brother serving in the Czar's Imperial Cavalry. The Bolshevik uprising and the assassination of the Czar in 1918 brought an abrupt end to his privileged life in Russia. His father and brother were killed in battle and his mother died in a Bolshevik prison. In the winter of 1918, Anatole and what remained of his cavalry unit left Russia on a four month trek through Siberia to Harbin, Manchuria, which was then a part of China.
When he went to China he was not even 21. He spent 30 years in China before spending his final days in the United States.
Important to note that he refused to sell his work in commercial galleries. He allowed his work to be shown only in Los Angeles where he could be in attendance. During his 32 years in Hollywood, Efimoff lived a modest life style and supported himself by teaching art. His work, therefore, was in private collections only for so long. Now as they emerge into the market astute collectors and art afficionados are driving the prices up. One can still find occasional pieces at auction, however, most of what is at auction is lithographs. I had four ORIGINALS, one of whom a very astute collector bought immediately when I listed it..
