This is rare and exquisite. It is a 19th Century wedding souvenir French bridal display box with a lid hand-painted with beautiful robins heralding the start of a beautiful marriage. I purchased this some years ago from another Ruby Lane Shop (that is in Europe). It was a French estate item. The glass box has a lovely diamond shape, the glass parts (sides and top) are joined by an old golden ribbon. The ribbon is ruffled on the top. The bottom of the box is also lined with braided ribbon. The lid is decorated with three hand painted redbreasts on a cherry tree (?) branch. Inside are two wonderful corsage roses made of satin. The third flower is probably a passion flower; it is made of lamb leather. What a perfect gift to a new bride.
Size: Diameter 5.2 by 5.2 inches. Height: 2 inches.
Condition: Good to Very Good. There are some age traces to the ribbon, some dust too. The ribbons may have been re-glued in places. The painting shows some minor loss. The white satin roses may have some minor age yellowing.
