This fabulous Blanc de Chine figural grouping, unmarked, features a blindfolded Lady Justice with cherubs. Since the 15th century, Lady Justice has often been depicted wearing a blindfold. The blindfold represents objectivity, in that justice is or should be meted out objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of identity, money, power, or weakness; blind justice and impartiality.
Size: 10" x 7" x 7"
Medium: Blanc de Chine.
Condition: I have only just realized, when I ran my fingers over Lady Justice's right hand, that her fingers are missing. It had looked as if she had closed her hand, but the roughness I feel makes me believe that her fingers are missing. The price has been substantially reduced because of this.
