The artist Carlton - I do not know personally but I purchased a large portfolio of Carlton's work many years ago. There are a number of racing subjects among the works. This one I suspect was of a jockey who had not done well in the race just completed. The background color is subdued. The jockey is portrayed in detail. He is the focal point, rather than the horse. It is, like so many of his works, a thought-provoking piece.
Size: The painting itself is approximately 8 1/2" by 8" leaving plenty of room for matting and framing.
Circa: 1970s to 1980s.
Condition: Some slight staining at the very edge of the top. Small marks upper right top and lower left bottom.
