The market has waxed and waned on flower paperweights, but the really special ones such as this are always in demand. This millefiori fantasy flower crowns the arrangement, with six petals fashioned from blue, pink, and white complex canes, encircling an intricate cog/rod/floret cane center. To the left blooms a white flower, its six full petals with faint streaks of light blue, surrounding a white stardust and pink bull's-eye cane center, accented with a ring of translucent pink dots. An unusual coral-pink blossom stands on the right side of the bouquet, with an intricate pale yellow, green, white, pink, and blue cog/rod cane center, surrounded by six ridged petals. A companion bud sprouts alongside each of the flowers, as they grow from leafy green stems, which are tied with a narrow white ribbon, over clear ground. It is rare to find a white ribbon used in a Clichy bouquet weight , as pink ribbons are more common.
"The casual leafage shows a great variety of form and texture. Some fantastic flowers have petals fashioned from lengths of cane that have been sliced through lengthwise, exposing the interior of the cane, the petal tips showing the bisected cane ends, a remarkable feat and an exercise of imagination that represents paperweight-making at its best" from The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights. Exhibited: Neenah, catalog number 35.

PRICE GUIDE: Fall 2008 Paperweight Price Guide. L. H. Selman, Ltd. The Glass Gallery
Estimate: $13,000.00 - $17,000.00.
This was from the renowned Sam and Winifred Alschuler Collection.
This was six years ago, and it is probably, in my mind, now worth well in excess of the high estimate back then.
