I purchased this years ago from another shop on Ruby Lane. The shop owner is an expert in cameos, and has a long history of dealing with them. She knew my appetite for the highest quality and most unique pieces, and offered this piece to me, which, of course, I could not resist. The workmanship is incredible. There are six cherubs' busts in high relief. Their wings are beautifully and subtly carved. Additionally there is a smaller profile and face in the upper to mid right. There is an exquisite pair of doves at the top. When one considers the cost of individual lava cameos that can run into thousands of dollars for finely carved pieces, this is not only rare but extremely valuable. I have displayed it on a small easel. This is a work of art that gives one an uplifting pride of ownership.
Size: 6 1/2" long. 4 1/2" wide.
Circa: 1860 - 1880.
Condition: Very Good to Excellent. The color is actually a muted steel gray. (Lava is Extremely difficult to photograph and catch the likeness of color in a photo).
