I consider this far superior to most of the antique Venetian perfumes we see today. This scent bottle has three portrait canes of Venetian gentlemen and three of gondolas. They are easily discerned. They emerge from a swirl of gold aventurine and colored glass in shades of red, blue, green, turquoise and white. "Once the (gondola) cane had been formed and drawn out until it was slender enough to be reheated...it was enclosed by a ring of stars, circles, or other motifs to produce a charming and characteristic souvenir for the delectation of the countless tourists who poured into Venice." from Miniature Masterpieces-Mosaic Glass 1838-1824.
Height: 2 1/2"
Circa: 1860 - 1880.
Condition: Very Good to Excellent.
PRICE GUIDE: Summer 2012 Paperweight Price Guide - L. H. Selman, Ltd. The Glass Gallery.
While this was estimated at $1,600.00 to $2,250.00, I feel the quality demands a higher price. After all, Buyer's Premiums run 25 percent nowadays, so even at the lowest estimate this would be $2,000.00. It certainly is better in details than other Venetian antique scent bottles.
