Rare Georgian Micro Mosaic Halley's Comet Gold Brooch With Two Dogs, Circa 1790s
Rare Georgian Museum Quality Micro Mosaic Halley's Comet Brooch in high karat gold. Depicting rare Hounds...perhaps Greyhounds or whippets. Looks like it is out of Pompeii with the quality and the design of the dogs. Colors and depiction rarely seen. One dog stands over the other, each wearing red collars. Greyish landscape with a tree background.
The Halley's Comet pins became quite fashionable after the sighting in 1758, and became a real fashion statement. The back has C clasp and monogrammed CL. A true Collectors piece...the very best. A Tangible Asset in these uncertain times that we expect to continue to go up in value, especially in view that the Halley Comet pin on its own is quite in demand, and the micro mosaic is wonderful, so it is doubly valuable.
