I am so proud to offer this wonderful Limited Edition photograph (it is Number 2 of an edition of only 50) by Noted Rock and Roll photographer Michael Maltese, taken during The Viet Nam Moratorium .
This is a bit different than the other photographs Michael is allowing me to list in my shop. It is quite poignant, and it is one of his favorites. He was a young soldier (Army) who had just finished his military service, and living through a very difficult period of our history.
Michael Maltese lived in the Baltimore/Washington DC area during the late '60s and 70's, a time when major venues were opening and emerging names were playing the area on a regular basis. A budding photographer with a passion for music, he began talking his way into shows and snapping the performances, shooting with natural light and processing his own work.
He produced most of his work during 1967-73, until "the industry grew beyond its fun period," at which time he placed his negatives and transparencies in storage for 30 years. In 2005, he began printing some of his work and making it available to collectors for the first time, including a number of never-before-published images, taken backstage and during performances. His "Lost Collection" included more than 30 of the greatest names of that era in music, including the Rolling Stones, Jim Hendrix, Janis Joplin, and Joe Cocker.
This is an unframed Color photo. It is signed and dated 11/15/69, by photographer Michael Maltese, from his "Lost Collection." Michael took very few photos in color. This is quite special on every level.
Measures 18" x 12" inches including margins. The picture itself measures 14 and 3/4" x 10".
This is Number 2 of an edition of only 50. There were NO Artists Proofs.
The photo is in Excellent Condition.
I am so honored that Michael Maltese is allowing me to list some major pieces of his work. If any of my clients have a particular favorite artist or band from that greatest era of Rock and Roll, please let me know, and Michael will let me list another treasure.
Remember that we offer layaway with no interest charges for up to four months. Perhaps this belongs in layaway for a Christmas gift that will be a favorite.
