Rudolf Jacobi, was born in Mühlhausen, Thuringia in Germany. His work is truly beautiful, and he is well-listed. One sees a metamorphosis through the years. He began as an impressionist, but gradually became a measured expressionist.
He apprenticed as a painter of stage sets, and attended the Royal Academy in Berlin. Jacobi took part in exhibitions and became a member of the Berlin Secession.
He was a soldier in the flight division during WWI. In 1921 he married painter and pacifist Anna Ottonie Krigar-Menzel (Annot), with whom he founded the Annot School of Painting.
This is one of my favorite harbor scenes. It evokes a mood of hopeful serenity. The sky is cloudy and could bode bad weather, but the mood is one of beauty and calm.
Size: Sight is 24" x 17 3/4". Framed it is 35" x 29 1/4". (Very nicely and appropriately framed.)
Signed: Lower right.
Condition: There are some brown spots in the upper left of the painting. They are not really noticeable unless you look fairly close. Certainly a work of art such as this would warrant the restoration. I have tried to accentuate them in the photos. We have taken the spots into consideration and offer this at a very low price for this artist.
We are always happy to deliver paintings (or any items) to the UPS Store if you prefer to make your own arrangements. You can choose any options yourself, by telephone with your own credit card.
