Pictures do not do this justice. The carving is extremely detailed.
Moses sits in deep thought, holding the tablets that he has been given that are the laws of a good life - the ten commandments. His beard is very long; his expression is one of awe, perhaps at the great responsibility that has been given to him. Moses is carved from one piece of wood; base and figure. The wood has been quite aptly selected. The striations of the wood, and range of tone of the wood going from dark to light are a subtle parody of his life and trials.
He is in Very Good Condition, with no chips but with an age crack on the front of the base, and on the back of the sculpture on the chair. There is some expected wear. (Photos are part of the description).
This sculpture is 8 and 1/2 inches high. The base is about 4 inches square.
