This is a marvelous piece, rarely offered. In the cabinet at night, it seems to have a wonderful glow.
This is Number 106 from a closed limited edition of only 250 pieces. It is in Excellent Condition, and comes with its Numbered Certificate.
Length is 8 and 3/4 inches.
It was designed by Martyn Alcock.
The Doulton Studio has kept the process that they use to make this sculpture secret. They recreated an Oriental style Rouge Flambe glaze after long experimentation starting in the 1890s. Charles Noke continued to develop the transmutation glazes. He followed this with Chang Wares, which rely on thick, lava-like glazes oozing down over the body of the vase for its decorative effect. This is an outstanding example of Sung ware, treasured by collectors as superior to Chang.
This Is the "Result Of The Fusion Of The Elements Air, Fire, Earth And Metal" And No Two Pieces Are Alike.
This is listed in the Antique Trader Royal Doulton Price Guide, 2006 Edition, at $800.00. Since then, it has become quite difficult to find one at all, and one should be prepared to pay in the neighborhood of $1000.00 to $1200.00.
