This wonderful and rare Lladro multi-figural porcelain sculpture was issued in 1970, and retired in 1975. It is rarely seen today, and when found the price is usually between $1,800.00 and $2,500.00. This is due to Lladro producing far less of this sculpture than is normal during the five year period.
This superb large Lladro figure was produced from 1970-81 and is entitled German Shepherd with Pup being model number 4731 in a glazed finish. It was sculpted by Juan Huerta and is superbly modeled being a German Shepherd dog with her pup in a basket and is finished in soft typical Lladro pastel shades.
This is 7 and 3/4 inches tall; 7 and 1/2 inches wide, and 8 and 1/2 inches deep. Lladro Reference Number 4731.
It is in Excellent Condition, save for three small (expected) areas of very light crazing on the hind leg.

Llado was born 1951 in Almacera, a tiny farming community near the city of Valencia, on the eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain. Born humble farmers, the Lladro brothers Juan, Jose and Vicente decided to create ceramics as a means of improving their future prospects. They enrolled in the Valencia School of Arts and Crafts, where Juan and Jose studied drawing and painting, while the youngest, Vicente, took up sculpture. The brothers built a Moorish-style kiln in 1951, and subsequent to a successful upgrade in 1952, officially founded the Lladro Co. in 1953. After opening their first retail store in Valencia in 1955, they moved from their small workshop to the town of Tavernes Blanques, and in 1958 the foundations were laid for what was to become known as Porcelain City, the home of Lladro porcelain art today. Becoming fully operational in 1962, the artisans workshop was established in 1963, growing to currently house 2000 skilled artisans occupying almost 1,000,000 square feet of design and manufacturing space.
