Having bought a large portfolio of original works some years ago, I still enjoy them immensely. I believe this artist, still unknown to me, will be discovered by the art world in the future. In the meantime, we can offer them at extremely affordable prices.
This is one of my favorites. Carlton certainly seemed to enjoy horse racing themes. This work is realism touched a bit by his impressionist nature. The jockey sits straight up, probably in contemplation of his strategy, with silent support from the groom.
It is, like so many of his works, a thought-provoking piece.
Size: The painting itself is approximately 9 by 14 inches, leaving plenty of room for matting and framing. The size of the whole sheet is 14 by 17 inches.
Medium: Watercolor on card stock.
Signed: Lower Right.
Condition: Very Good Vintage Condition. Small tear right center that does not impinge on the work itself. Minimal foxing. The edges do show where this was framed at one time but does not interfere with the subject matter.
