The history of Peek, Frean & Co.s is quite interesting, and well worth researching, even if you are not an Anglophile. They were established in 1857, and developed into an internationally known company. When they added cakes to their repetoire, they baked for English monarchs time after time. They changed their name in the 1920s, so this piece of English biscuit history was made sometime in the first part of the twentieth century.
This is a charming piece, with children watching a puppet show, and the blocks supporting their bench advertise the biscuits on one and Fairy Cakes on the other.
