Edwin Henry Boddington (British, 1823-1905) is a well-recognized artist from the Victorian era. His work has been sold in the last ten years at major galleries such as Christies, Heritage, Bonhams, and DuMouchelles. His high public sale price was $9,480.00 (in 2013).

Edwin Henry Boddington, son of Henry Boddington, comes from the illustrious Williams family of landscape painters. He was a pupil of his father and became a competent painter in his own right. Edwin was strongly influenced by his father and he often painted similar compositions. Edwin even finished some of his father’s canvases after his death. He exhibited throughout England, most notably 11 times at the famed Royal Academy, 45 times at Suffolk Street, and 25 times at the British Institution. These were probably three of the four best galleries in Great Britain in his lifetime. Examples of his work hang in the Glasgow Museum, Rotherham Museum, Reading Town Hall and the Ealing Central Library.

This is a wonderful rendition of what was perhaps a favorite place for Boddington. It is Ballachulish, Scotland, painted in 1879. I believe it was a favorite place because, of the paintings of his that I have seen and researched, this seems to have been painted with true affection, not simply a likeness.

Two of his paintings sold at the prestigious Bonhams for $2,250.00 each, and one at Christies for over $9,400.00.
