Pierre Eugene Duteurtre (French, 1911-1989) did not begin to devote himseld fully to painting until 1968. (Prior to that he worked in publications creating comic strips, most known was Sitting Bull for Marijac.) His work is not well-kow in the United States. He has created many portraits and genre scenes, but very few landscapes or waterscapes such as this. What a pity! I consider this the best of the dozen or so paintings of his I have seen. This is one of those rare creations in which the artist seems to have his moment of genius. I love it. Wish he had created more such as this.
