This is one of the early "hot water bottles"... It was filled with boiling water, and placed under the covers on the bed to warm things up before the lucky owner retired for the night. Most of these were undecorated. This Doulton is clearly marked on one side, with the Lion. It has a screw type stoneware cap (some minor damage to the cap... see picture). It is triangular in profile, so it sits quite steadily without rolling at all. This makes such an interesting conversation starter when put next to a fireplace, or even used as a door stop.
It is about 11 inches long (including cap). It is in Very Good to Excellent Condition, with no losses.
This is a very interesting antique.
