A WONDERFUL LARGE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD from the November 12th 1881 Edition of THE LONDON ILLUSTRATED NEWS.....Titled... ' A HIRING AND STATUTE FAIR IN THE NORTH OF ENGLAND'. According to the article on this these Fairs were a an Annual Event held in Country Towns in the North of England. The farm workers stood in the market place all day for 'personal; inspection' with regards to being hired. This is a marvelous old depiction showing the "characters" of the time. The London Illustrated News was a highly regarded weekly news sheet that used mainly wood cut engravings to print their illustrations so the definition and clarity on these pieces is superb and they are therefore ideal for framing as pictures.
