This a gorgeous wee thing standing just 4 1/2" in height. Obviously the inner bowl is missing but even so the shape and form make this a very collectible piece.. It clearly marked as WMF and being from this famous German House it would be well worth attempting to find a replacement inner glass. In 1880 the merger between Straub & Sohn and "Ritter & Co.", Esslingen, formed a public limited company under the name of Wurttembergische Metallwarenfabrik. At the time of the merger, Ritter & Co.'s Esslingen factory was already using the electroplating method of silver plating and had the more modern production facilities at its disposal. Straub's company, on the other hand, was the more profitable of the two. The firm WMF (Wurttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik) were producing metal ware in different styles ... Classical, Art Nouveau ( Jugendstil ), Art Deco, Celtic / Viking revival, WMF IS STILL IN EXISTENCE HAVING CELEBRATED 150 YEARS IN 2003.
