This old Miniature is signed L. Fici (Leona Fici) and dates we think to the mid Victorian era or a little later. The painting is taken from the renowned work "VERGINE-DELLE-ROCCE by the Renaissance artist FILIPPINO LIPI ....the work hangs in The Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
Fici was obviously earning a living painting these miniatures aimed at the tourist trade....those doing 'The Grand Tour" of Europe who wanted souvenirs to take home with them. The miniature seems beautifully done and measures just 2 1/4" in diameter in the original frame which 5 1/2" x 4 3/4" in size. So far we have not found any information of Leona Fici apart from noting some other mention of her miniature paintings. We do have another very similar one from the same era by Fici of The Madonna....just subtle changes to the head dress and clothing.
