This Volume covers the full six months of issues from Saturday July 4th to Saturday December 26th 1857. The Volume has at some stage been superbly re-bound with new covers. The interior is generally very clean and tidy for its age of some 160 plus years....there is some staining and page browning plus rips and tears here and there as would be expected. The large fold out Supplement of Queen Victoria at Parliament has been taped as was badly ripped. The volume is somewhat unusual as it has several full colour pages. The Volume weighs 4 kilos and measures 16 1/4" x 12" in size and is of 656 pages. A wonderful historical piece containing many events in The British Empire and of other nations.
The Illustrated London News appeared first on Saturday 14 May 1842, as the world's first illustrated weekly news magazine. Founded by Herbert Ingram, it appeared weekly until 1971, then less frequently thereafter, and ceased publication in 2003. The company continues today as Illustrated London News Ltd, a publishing, content and digital agency in London, which holds the publication and business archives of the magazine.
NOTE: We have some 20 other Bound Volumes covering the Mid-Late Victorian Era so please do contact us if you are interested in specific time periods.
