A huge pair of fabulously decorated STIRRUP SHOES from Peru ....The style dates to the Colonial Era period mid 1800's but they were probably made in the early - mid 1900's. The Shoe Stirrups have hand-carved wooden shoes overlaid in sheet Alpacca Silver that is beautifully decorated in repousse with a medieval battle scene to front and floral patterns to the side . These Shoe Stirrups are larger and more elaborate than many .... each one weighs approximately 2 kilos and measures 10 inches in height, 9 1/2" in width, and 7" in depth at the widest extremities. These stirrups would have been for 'special occaision' use...parades and festivals etc. so do not show a lot of 'wear' signs. Simply outstanding Museum Quality Collectors pieces that will "display" beautifully.
Alpaca Silver is another name for NICKEL SILVER.....there is no silver content at all .....the properties are more of the nature of stainless steel....hence the very bright and shiny affect.....it is usually around 60% copper /20% zinc/ 20% nickel.
