A small tobacco jar depicting a pretty black girl with bandana or handkerchief headwear. ....appears to have a hand painted 'finishing details' to it...eyes, lips etc. In nice condition...one very small shallow chip off base at back. These were also made in a larger version but this one is just 4" tall with a max width of 3.5". Some rough areas on ears...manufacture faults. Nice to find one with the lid as often these were broken. Made in Japan circa 1950. There were a variety of supposed 'ethnic' heads made in this range...Chinese, Arab, and so on so they were not regarded as 'racist' items.
