A splendid old Chalice with Hallmarks for Irish Silver and Dublin, together with a Date Letter for 1841, The Makers mark of E.M. appears to be 'unknown' and is described as probably being a Dublin Retailers Mark. The interior and exterior of the cup bowl has a gilt finish as does the octagonal base....there is wear to the gilt, some 'nibbles to rim and a small surface dent on the base. The cup is round and tapers down to an engraved stem with ornate knop at centre and this sits on an octagonal curved food with a patterned edge and an engraved cross on one panel with the letters IHS on the opposite panel. The foot is not quite even. The Chalice has a height of Eight Inches with a base diameter of six inches. Silver weight to be advised.
