This item came from an elderly man whose parents had owned an Antique Shop in Somerset, England, back in the 1950's. His parents obtained this piece from someone who had a family member who served in the Boer War in South Africa. The story they told was that the flag was used after a skirmish having pieces cut off it to bandage a wounded soldier and that the stains on the piece are actually blood from that episode. Who knows but certainly an interesting thing! Originally would have measured 30" x 28" before being cut.
