Obtained from a Collector of Australian and Pacific Ethnic Art this highly decorative Fighting Shield has been beautifully decorated with tribal designs all done in natural pigments on both sides of the Shield. The Shield is made in a very light wood and has carved Pelican heads at top and a Warriors head to center ...there are extensions attached at the sides....may represent turtle flippers or are possibly just there for added protection. The hole at the bottom was probably for ease of carrying when traveling. There are remnants only of the original bark arm strap on the back. The Shield MEASURES 31" in length with a maximum width of 15 1/4". Quite a few wear signs around the handle and bottom of the shield. A super genuine ethnic piece.....great DECOR item also.We estimate age at around 40-50 years.
