Issued by Napoleon Bonaparte 1798. The obverse is a Bust of Memnon facing left; around, CONQUETE DE LA HAUTE EGYPTE AN. VII Below bust in small letters, GALLE F. The Reverse has a Crocodile chained to palm tree; in small letters on ground GALLE; in exergue DENON DIREXIT. The medal is in silver with a gilt finish....some wear to the gilt as has had a mount added and been used as a Pendant or Fob. Diameter is 1 3/8". Refer Book, Captain J. Laskey, Medals Struck at the National Medal Mint by Order of Napoleon Bonaparte, London, 18 Pages. Similar examples sold at around Euro 400.
