Made by the US MINT for The Official Columbian Exposition in Chicago celebrating 400 years since Columbus discovered America. Beautifully cast in Bronze with a strong rich reddish brown colour the medallion measures 3" in diameter and is a quarter of an inch in thickness. Condition is superb but it does not have the original case. The Obverse was engraved by Augustus Saint Gaudens with the Reverse engraver being Charles. F Barber.This particular medal was Awarded to FRATELLI FRICANO. Considered as 'rare' with only some 400-500 known medals in existence. A medal with case, with the same rich red/brown tones sold at auction in 2012 by Goldberg Auctioneers for US$719.
