Bronze Plaquette 'Escrime' (Fencing) -Marie Lucien Coudray
A superb small Bronze Plaquette by the French sculptor and medalist, "Marie -Alexandre-Lucien Coudray (1864-1932). She was a pupil of Dumont and Thomas, Allouard and Ponscarme. Coudray was Awarded the Premier Grand Prix de Rome de Gravure en Medailles in 1893 and awarded the Silver Medal at the Universal Exposition. Her signature can be seen on the obverse in the lower right hand corner- "L Coudray". This high quality work portrays a Fencing match with supporters observing and on the obverse is a vignette of fencing masks, foils, gloves etc. This Work dates to Circa 1900. Measures 2 5/8""wide by 1 3/4" high. It is stamped on the bottom rim "Bronze" and carries the Paris poincon cornucopia marking.
