A Victorian sterling silver snuff box from the end of the 19th century, in excellent condition. The sides and top to this delightful snuff box are embossed with flowers and scrolling leaves, while the box inside has the silver gilt which would be expected from such a box. A good size for a snuff box but which today could make an ideal pill box.. The cartouche shows the box was given to " M A F " in 1901.
The box was made by the silversmith Henry Matthews, is hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 and weighs 73 gms or 2.3 ozs. The box measures 3 inches by 2.25 inches with a depth of just over 1 inch.
