This 1/2" pine Pennsylvania document box dates from 1830-40 and has the original grey smoke paint decoration. The box is constructed with square nails and retains the original cast iron butt hinges and iron lock. Measuring 17 1/4" wide x 10 1/8" deep x 6 1/2" tall (not including the knob on top) the box is in good condition with no breaks or repairs. The lock is missing the hasp as shown and there was once a leather hinged wooden divider inside that is no longer there. The grey smoke paint was expertly applied and has the appropriate distress and wear for a 175 year old surface. We are selling this box out of our personal collection.
