This intriguing antique necklace is made up of fascinating materials: natural, iridescent mother of pearl; pale green and gray striped celluloid; and turquoise cabochon stones, all set in a round, slightly domed silver pendant.
The previous owner said it was English, and I believe it is an Arts and Crafts piece from the early 1900s. The composition and color palette produce a harmonious, serene balance of elements. The reverse of the pendant has a center turquoise stone that is greener than the one on the front.
While the chain is not original, the portion with four textured bars (silver colored metal) and the remaining sterling links continue the mood and feel of the pendant.
The round pendant measures 1-1/4". The wearable length of the necklace is 18-1/2".
Marked Silver along the side, and Sterling on the clasp.
