Extraordinary early Victorian coral brooch, 15k gold, with carved dog, cornuto hands, and a cornicello. A mastiff dog lies horizontally on the gold pin; this supports a ring with a fancy chain from which two cornuto hands and a cornicello dangle.
The dog is masterfully carved with details of snout, ears, haunches, a paw, and tail. It measures 3/4" long, so it is little but powerful.
Two hands with outstretched and clasped fingers show great details as well, fingernails and palm lines. They are cuffed in gold. One hand is 1/2" and the other almost 5/8". There is no finger breakage.
The gold cuffed cornicello is 1/2", nicely curved, and is missing the end tip.
This wonderful piece measures 1-5/8" from top to bottom and it weighs 2.6g. It shows gentle age-commensurate wear, see photos. Keep in mind that it is small and delicate and the elements are generally tiny. Just a beautiful, well preserved, Victorian treasure!
