Extraordinary Art Deco locket necklace with enameling and marcasites, Germany, c1925. This remarkable silver necklace features a brilliant green guilloche enamel locket, opening on the reverse, accented with a floral decoration, framed with an opulent arrangement of sparkling marcasites. Its chain is beautiful as well, offering six pairs of star-studded enameled links. This is the first such necklace I've come across in all of my years of German Deco curating.

The locket measures 2" including the fancy bail, by 1-1/4" at widest. The back panel opens downward, revealing an oval, plastic-lidded enclosure. It opens and closes securely with a gentle snap.

The chain measures 25" and includes enameled as well as open-worked silver links, all about 1/2". The enameled links are green and copper-colored with some silver showing through. Both sides of each link have applied silver stars. I find the links colorful and gorgeous as they are, but they were probably originally all green and are now showing great enamel loss.

Measuring about 29", the necklace weighs 22.3g. The construction is exemplary and the condition is very fine and the locket itself is in excellent condition. The locket back is marked Sterling Germany.

A couple of missing marcasites have been replaced.
