Antique late Georgian mourning ring in 18ct gold and black enamel, hallmarked. This is a tiny specimen, barely size 2. The front glass (cloudy with a worn surface) contains a lock of braided blonde hair. The outer shank is elaborately detailed with a pattern of raised lettering. There are remnants of black enamel on the front.
Inside, the inscription reads M.W. Bacon OB 20 Aug 1831 A 37. The hallmark includes a Roman numeral 1 or the letter I, and a space; duty mark; crown; 18; lion's head; and small q. It weighs 1.7g.
It's a beautiful little treasure from the period.
