Antique Edwardian synthetic alexandrite earrings in 15ct yellow gold. Vibrant, large (13mm x 11mm) purple stones are beautifully faceted to radiate light and color. They dangle from short chains whose movement enhances their sparkle. You can see some red-violet hues shooting through the purple, and depending on the light, gray-blue; the color-changing properties are very subtle, not dramatic. Unmarked, the earrings test as 15ct gold. They measure 1-1/16" from the top of the post and 1/2" at widest. The stones are 13mm x 11mm. The condition is excellent with no chips or scratches.
Synthetic, or lab created stones, were first made in the mid-1800s and became more widely used at the turn of the century.
