Antique Victorian locket in sterling silver with an ornately engraved front. The design here is complex and very beautiful. I see open curtains on either side that reveal a flying bird and butterfly, as well as a rose with leaves and stems; bleeding hearts flowers; a rising or setting sun with rays; and overall intricate, varied patterning. The large rose at the base in relation to the smaller-scale design elements is another distinguishing feature.
The locket is large, measuring 2-3/8" including the big bail, by 2-1/4". The inside is not outfitted but will easily hold a memento or photographs. The back of the locket is plain and hallmarked for Birmingham, with a small "h" for 1882-83. There is a lion passant and the maker S. Bros. The bail is hinged and also marked with a lion passant for silver.
The condition is very fine with only one baby's tooth indent on back and light age commensurate wear.
