Antique Victorian locket or memento holder with vivid hand-painted bird and flowers, black enameling, and decorative engraving in gold filled metal. In this gorgeous landscape, a flying bird with outstretched wings lands on a luscious rose; a blue clouded sky, green leaves, and blue forget-me-nots complete the picture. The rich array of colors include muted reds, pinks, purples, blues, greens, yellows, and black.
Surrounding the hand-painted scene are intricate engravings and black enameling, beautifully done. The back of the locket shows an engraved bird nestling among flowers and leaves.
Inside, the locket compartment is spacious and allows for a small object as well as photos. There are no fittings, and the right side is painted with black enamel. This would be easily covered by fabric, paper, or photos. On the left is the mark Daller, which I can't identify.
The locket with attached ring and bail is 1-5/8" by 1". The depth is about 1/4". The locket opens and closes well from the back.
The condition is very good with expected minor surface wear. It weighs 6.8g.
